Together with academic programmes and community mobilisation, research is one of the foundational pillars of the Africa Centre. The centre aims to conduct research with respect to HIV and AIDS in the workplace and publish the findings in appropriate media.

The following topics of research projects from graduated MPhil students are an excellent example of the groundbreaking nature of the research that is done:

  • Corporate social responsibility towards AIDS orphans in South Africa: Trends in the motor manufacturing sector and guidelines for corporate action.
  • Managing HIV and AIDS related stigma in the workplace.
  • Fringe benefits tax on HIV/AIDS disease management of employees in the world of work.
  • The future of oral fluid HIV testing in South Africa.
  • The involvement of community pharmacists in the syndromic approach to the management of sexually transmitted infections: A proposed best practice model.
  • The effect of conducting workplace voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) on-site on VCT uptake.
  • Counterfeiting of HIV/AIDS medicines: Implications for global epidemic - recommendations for workplace programs.

The diverse range of sectors of society covered in these theses is a clear indication of the widespread impact of the Africa Centre and its students. Every group, region and industry is taken into account in the pro active work of the centre, addressing HIV and AIDS in South Africa in all its aspects.
