UNAIDS, the joint United Nations programme on HIV/AIDS, brings together the efforts and resources of ten UN system organisations to the global AIDS response. Based in Geneva, the UNAIDS secretariat works on the ground in more than 75 countries worldwide.

UNAIDS is committed to strengthening support to nationally owned and led responses. It has five focus areas: leadership and advocacy, strategic information and technical support, tracking monitoring and evaluation, civil society engagement and mobilisation of resources

 

British American Tobacco South Africa (BATSA) is part of the British American Tobacco group of companies and is the largest manufacturer of cigarettes in South Africa. The company has 27 brands in its portfolio, providing cigarettes to more than nine in ten of SA’s five million adult smokers.

BATSA values the principles of corporate social responsibility and are one of the few South African companies who fulfil the demanding global CSR (corporate social responsibility) standards and guidelines. In 2003 the company was been involved with a countrywide HIV/AIDS Know Your Status campaign, and in 2006 with an HIV/Wellness Own Your Status campaign. BATSA further demonstrates its interest in the emotional and social wellbeing of employees through an Employee Wellness Programme (EWP)

 

Jimmie Earl Perry is not only the director of educational theatre and creative arts of the Africa Institute; he is also a phenomenal musician with a wealth of experience. Originally from New Jersey, Jimmie has travelled the world and performed in a variety of theatre productions and musicals, including Cats, Starlight Express, Jesus Christ Superstar and Miss Saigon. Today he uses his talent and experience in the battle against HIV/AIDS through the creative arts.

 

Equity Fights AIDS (founded in 1987) and Broadway Cares (founded in 1988) merged in 1992 to become Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, which is based in New York. The newly established non-profit fundraising organisation continues to fund the social service work of the previously separate organisations and to award grants twice a year to HIV and AIDS service organisations.

The objectives of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS include mobolising the abilities within the entertainment industry to combat HIV/AIDS; increasing public awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS through education; and promoting public support for programmes and services that benefit people living with HIV and AIDS.

 
USAID is the principal US agency to give assistance to countries recovering from disaster, trying to escape poverty and engaging in democratic reforms.

USAID is an independent federal government agency that receives overall foreign policy guidance from the Secretary of State. Their work supports long-term and equitable economic growth and advances US foreign policy objectives by supporting economic growth, agriculture and trade, global health, democracy, as well as conflict prevention and humanitarian assistance
 

The Health Policy Initiative is an initiative from USAIDS. In South Africa, the Health Policy Initiative works with in-country partners to design guidelines on men's reproductive health as a way of reducing vulnerability to and the spread of HIV until middle 2008. Planned activities include a desk review on the status of men's reproductive health, current research, and existing interventions; consultative meetings with government, civil society, and donor representatives; preparation of guidelines to give strategic direction to programs on improving men's reproductive health; and formation of a national task force to manage implementation of the guidelines.

 

Dance for All (DFA) is a non-profit organisation that has been teaching dance to historically disadvantaged children and youth in Cape Town, South Africa for 16 years. Philip Boyd, a former principal dancer with CAPAB (now Cape Town City Ballet), founded the organisation in 1991 as Ballet for All. A diverse range of dance forms were eventually included and in 1995 Ballet for All became Dance for All.

DFA runs an outreach programme of daily dance classes in classical ballet, African, contemporary, musical theatre and Spanish dance for 900 children in the underprivileged areas. The organisation has become a highly regarded school of dance, successfully training a new generation of professional South African dancers. In 2005, DFA formed its own Youth Company (DFAYC). The DFAYC performed at the 2006 World AIDS Day concert hosted by the Africa Centre.

 

The Kunjalo Music Ministries Gospel Choir from Cape Town was founded in 2001 and is an affiliate of the Kunjalo Community Worship Centre.  The vibrant musical group has been at the forefront of the HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign and has appeared under the auspices of the internationally acclaimed organisation, One Voice AIDS Awareness Campaign.
