Educational Theatre Company debut

Prof Jimmie Earl Perry, well-known stage performer in countless international productions such as Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon, Starlight Express and currently director of educational theatre and creative arts for the Centre, directed the play.

The Educational Theatre Company forms part of the Centre’s community mobilization and education efforts amongst especially farm workers in the Boland area.

What makes the play extra special is that it is performed in Afrikaans - a language Prof Perry as director, has no proficiency in. The play furthermore boasts a student from Gabon who performs his part in Afrikaans.

The newly created Stellenbosch International Gospel Choir, passionately singing traditional American gospel songs, supported the play. Perry is also at the helm of this choir, consisting of ordinary community members and local and international students with little or no musical background.
