Record numbers for PDM Class of 2009
The biggest class in the history of PDM course – more than 360 students!
“The record number of students registering for this year’s Programme is confirmation
of how sought after the skills are gained from the successfully
completing the course” says Prof Jan Du Toit, Director of
the Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS Management. Students from all
over the world gathered for the PDM course at the Stellenbosch
University campus in January as part of the 2009 summer school.
In fact, foreign students make up almost 40% of the class
numbers. “Its proof that the course work taught on the Programme
is not limited to the South African scenario” says Du Toit.
Students from as far a field as Jamaica, Afghanistan and the
Philippines have registered for this year.
During the five
days of the summer school, students had lectures, listened
to speeches and also received information about the structure
of the course, the modules and assignments. Several experts
added value by talking about the very real possibilities of
making a difference in the world of work and in the community
with respect to HIV/AIDS. The summer school, however, was
not all hard work. There were several relaxing and entertaining
activities, such as attending the welcoming cocktail function
and having a good old fashioned South African braai, as well
as visiting famous sights around Cape Town. After all was
said and done a productive and memorable week was had by all
– good luck to all students for the year ahead! u |
