On 1 December 2005 the Africa Centre and the Desmond Tutu TB Centre celebrated World AIDS Day at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) with a brilliant and tasteful gala concert.
Ruda Landman, of television’s Carte Blanche fame, fulfilled the role of compere and Bongani Khumalo, who is also an honourary professor at the Africa Centre, was the Keynote speaker.
The musical programme featured Jimmie Earl Perry, Director
of Educational Theatre and Creative Arts at the Africa Centre
and an international performing artist in his own right,
US singer and evangelist T. Renée Crutcher, the Cape
Philharmonic Orchestra, DNA Strings, the Stellenbosch International
Gospel Choir and the Educational Theatre Company of the
Africa Institute for HIV/AIDS Management.
All the proceeds for the concert went to Tygerberg Children’s hospital to provide in the needs of HIV positive children.
