The Africa Centre’s third annual gala concert to mark World AIDS Day was held at the Artscape Opera House on 1 December 2007. The concert commemorated the 20th World AIDS Day globally and was hosted in collaboration with the Western Cape Provincial Government.

Jimmie Earl Perry, Director of Educational Theatre and Creative Arts at the Africa Institute for HIV/AIDS Management, community building arm of the Africa Centre, was the main performer, producer and director of the inspiring concert, creating a powerful production to be long remembered.

The diverse programme, which included dance performances, comedy, classical, adult contemporary and gospel music, was a celebration of the work done regarding HIV and AIDS prevention and management. In this spirit, two awards were made to institutions that go the extra mile in fighting the pandemic. The deserving winners were the Education Department of Mpumalanga and the Swellendam sub-district.(Images: Leon Oosthuizen)
