Please note that for formatting purposes some of the titles may differ from the originally submitted abstract. Authors are therefore encouraged to ensure that the IAVS 2008 schedule corresponds with their final presentation/poster.

Format of the symposium presentations:

ORAL: 15 MINUTES TALK + 5 MINUTES DISCUSSION (key note speakers have got 40 minutes: 35 min. talk + 5 minutes discussion)

POSTERS: Our poster stands can accommodate size up to portrait A0 (zero). Mounting material (pins, sticky tape, scissors etc.) will be provided.

The poster sessions will be held in the corridors of the Conservatorium building. The poster authors are requested to be present at their posters in the allocated slot (Monday or Tuesday evening) to discuss their posters with interested colleagues. No powerpoint presentations or other formal presentations of the posters are scheduled.

Description:  This one-day course will be devoted to the basic concepts of the JUICE 6.5 freeware, computing package based on the Microsoft WINDOWS platform.

The preliminary workshop programme:

  1. JUICE Installation, Management of Species Lists
  2. Data Import (Input from TURBOVEG and other Data Formats, Species Lists)
  3. Manual Editing of Vegetation Tables and Basic Classifications
  4. Concept of Diagnostic Species and the Theory of Phytosociological Fidelity
  5. Synoptic Tables and Automatic Editing of Vegetation Tables
  6. Export Options
  7. Modified TWINSPAN Classification
  8. Comparison of Classifications: OPTIMCLASS Method
  9. Formal Reproduction of Traditional Syntaxa: COCKTAIL Method
  10. Matching Relevés to Synoptic Tables
  11. Expert System for Automatic Identification of Vegetation Units
  12. Ordinations
  13. Fitting Species Response Curves
  14. Linking Phytosociological Data with Species Trait Databases
