Dear Peter, Bert and Aneli,
My return trip to Amsterdam and Nijmegen went smoothly and I am back to work now. My first visit to South Africa was unforgettable in many
aspects: the climate, the unbelievable beauty of the country, your great hospitality, the friendly people, but also all the difficult social aspects of your society. Stellenbosch is certainly a place to come back.
The conference was very interesting and very well organized. Thank you so much. Alan and I talked to many participants, which I hope will lead to interesting and useful scientific contacts in the future. And then of course my collapse: I was happy to hear from the doctor that it was most likely the result of fatigue and lack of sleep. Aneli: thank you very much for taking me to the University Medical Center in Peter's car! I am feeling in good shape again and my wife is happy that I am safely back home. She told me that she is eager to accompany me next time. Peter: at my next visit there will certainly be more time for stories and toasts.
Bert: many thanks for the lift on Sunday evening and for showing me your labs. Good luck with your research. Dear friends: I hope we will be able to stay in contact!
