American born Jimmie Earl Perry has been
in the music business most of his life. His
arrival in South Africa in 2004 has been combined
with developing and producing educational theatre
for HIV and AIDS awareness, education and prevention
at the Africa Centre for HIV/AIDS Management as well
as continuing his extensive performing career.
The impressive list of international performers with
whom he has performed includes
The Platters, Leonard Bernstein, Dave
Brubeck, Kat Dyson, Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir
and many more. Musicals such as Jesus Christ
Superstar, Cats, Starlight Express,
Miss Saigon and Dreamgirls, are
a few of the international productions he starred
in. Currently a resident of South Africa, Jimmie continues
to explore his acting in American and South African
television shows such as Orion and Triangle,
and can be heard on many SA radio and television voice
overs. His debut album, recorded in South Africa,
is testimony of his musical background that is firmly
rooted in R&B, jazz, gospel and contemporary sounds.
At the same time, he is using his talent to prevent
the growing epidemic of AIDS.
The lyrics of two tracks on this CD, Destination
Africa and Avalanche, were written by
Jimmie, with the music by Jacques Steyn of the instrumental
band DNA Strings. |
